Esther Rutter is a non-fiction author represented by Jenny Brown Associates and published by Granta Books. Esther’s first book, This Golden Fleece, was published in September 2019 (you can order a copy here if you live in the UK, or here if you are in the US.) Winner of the Society of Authors’ Roger Deakin Award for This Golden Fleece, Esther is now working on her second book, an exploration of landscapes and belonging, due for publication in 2022.
Since 2017 Esther has been part of the University of St Andrews’ School of Geography and Sustainable Development, first as Writer in Residence (2017-2020) and then as an honorary Research Fellow (2021-2024). Before becoming a writer, she had a 10-year career in cultural heritage working with UNESCO in Edinburgh and the Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere, and read English at Oxford University’s Magdalen College. Esther grew up on a sheep farm in Suffolk and retains an affection for all things woolly.
